Changes in Admission Process for UNAM and IPN

The Government of Mexico announced the elimination of the COMIPEMS exam for the year 2025, which has led the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) to join efforts for the admission of students to high school.

The rector of UNAM, Leonardo Lomelí, expressed his support for the educational initiatives of President Claudia Sheinbaum regarding admission to high school. During the 2025-2026 school year, it is expected that UNAM will open at least 1500 new spots, involving its campuses from the National Preparatory School and the College of Sciences and Humanities to receive approximately 34,000 students.

At an event at the National Palace, with the presence of Claudia Sheinbaum and the signing of the disappearance of COMIPEMS in Mexico City by the Head of Government Clara Brugada, the director of IPN, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, showed his support for the joint initiative.

The entrance exam to high school for UNAM and IPN will be conducted exclusively for their schools, being entirely online and utilizing Artificial Intelligence tools. Other institutions, such as the College of Bachelors and CONALEP, among others, will soon announce their own admission processes.

The Mexican government and the mentioned universities will work together to ensure the implementation of the National High School and guarantee the admission of all secondary school students to a high school institution.
